First Injury

I wrote this back on 8/2/07:
Taisei sustained his first facial injury yesterday. Probably because it was past his bedtime, he was hyperactive. After a yummy dinner with Lisa, we went for a walk next to the water in Seattle. Taisei absolutely refused to be carried or even to hold our hand (finger, actually). It was bound to happen and we were all afraid of it. He finally tripped over his shoe and hit the asphalt face-first. Actually, I think he hit his lip/nose and then skipped onto his forehead.

Let me tell you - as a parent, even though you tell yourself it's not your fault, you feel absolutely terrible. I found myself thinking irrational thought like "maybe it was a bad idea to have gone for a walk late (8:30 pm) at night." In reality, it wasn't that late and the sun wasn't even down yet. Plus, it's not like we can sit around in the hotel room to avoid accidents. I just hope Taisei's not scarred for life (literally).

At least we now have this blogged so that 15 years later, he can see exactly when he got that little scar on his nose and lip. Taisei, we want you to know that we still think you're as cute as ever!

Update:
For the rest of the trip, Taisei has a big scab on his nose and lip. But incredibly, it was completely healed up in exactly one week. Now, only if you look really carefully you can see that there is some discoloration under his left nostril. I think everything is going to be OK and life can go on again. ;)

If Taisei can eat it, So can you

Look what Taisei's eating! I'm such a proud father. If you're not Taiwanese (or Chinese too, perhaps) you probably won't be able to tell what it is.

In mandarin, it's called "pi dan" (1st tone, 4th tone). In English, we call it "thousand year old egg." We have more if you're interested. Come over and have some anytime!

Taisei's so cool. haha!
