Update:
Taisei's babbling like crazy now. The alarming thing is that he'll now spontaneously respond to questions: an English "no" for negative and the classic Japanese "unn" grunt with emphatic nodding for affirmative. Whenever he does it, we eye him carefully to see if he's truly answering us. In almost every case, it appears that he is.
- Taisei, do you want broccoli? "nn" *nod**nod**nod*
- Taisei, do you want to change clothes? "no, no, no!"
It's hard to ignore him when he wakes at night now because he nicely asks from his crib: "Mama? Mama?? Mama!? Mama!!" We still ignore him if possible, but it's just a lot harder.
Words he likes to say:
- "apple" - self explanatory, but sometimes it means he wants juice.
- "atta" - Japanese, hard to explain in English. I admit that Taisei's Japanese abilities have already surpassed mine.
- "ko-ko" - Japanese, for airplane. Technically, it's "hikouki"
- "ji-ji" - Chinese for airplane. Technically, it's "fei-ji"
- "ai-ai" - Japanese slang for monkey. But really, it means "Mom, sing my favorite song!"
- "elmo" - Taisei for "Nemo." It also means Elmo, as in Sesame Street. But really, it means "I want to watch Nemo!"
New tricks:
- Tackling Hiro. Now that Taisei's older, Hiro seems to enjoy playing with him.
- Open and closing doors, using the doorknob. He can't quite turn it yet, but he's pushing and pulling the door and definitely knows that he has to turn the knob.
- He suddenly loves playgrounds. A LOT. He always didn't mind, but now when we walk Hiro, he has to go and play on the swings and slide. It seems like he'll ride the slide like a lab will chase a stick - all DAY.
