Happy 1st Birthday Taisei!

We made it through the first year relatively incident free. No major accidents or setbacks. Our only problem with him is that he doesn't eat. Taisei has been a happy baby. Whenever he's not, then it's nap time. Maybe that's taught him that he'd better stay happy or else. heheh

Taisei's such a spoiled boy. He got to have two birthday parties, with gifts, cake and everything. Bev and company surprised us by having a big bash in DC the weekend before his birthday. There ended up being 18 people, all from our BYU days, at his party including 5 of his own little-people friends - Andersen, Elias, Evan, Brennan and Clayton. Although we had planned to get a baby-friendly, not-too-much-sugar cake, we didn't know we had to pre-order and eventually had to settle for a Costco cake. Wami and I were in shock. After an entire year of discipline and careful feeding, here's Taisei with his first cake - with heaps of frosting and sugar.

Quick, blow it out the candle before he grabs it!
Shock and disbelief for the two on the right.Intense enjoyment for the little one.The final result.
We had such a fun time at this party.
Thanks again to everyone who came!

For Taisei's actual birthday, we had to do something again, of course. Wami made this awesome cake loosely based off a Martha Stewart recipe. This one was baby friendly. For example, the frosting was replaced with yogurt cream. The scary thing is, I think he liked the real frosting better.

We were very touched that our only immediate family in town, Esther and John, made the trek all the way up to Salt Lake for his birthday. Thanks for coming up, guys!

That's the coolest cake ever, Wami.

sorry, i've ruied taisei with a costco cake!! His monkey cake looks so much better than what they can ever dish up at costco. I bet it was better than the vegan cake we tried to get!
